kBird food truck moving into space in Hillcrest

Yet another Little Rock food truck is moving into a brick and mortar: kBird, Little Rock’s favorite (only?) Thai food truck is getting a home.

The team announced via a Facebook post today that the restaurant will be located at 600 N. Tyler, the former home of Palette Catering. Palette’s owners now own Pizzeria Santa Lucia at 5018 Kavanaugh.

According to the post, the truck will be closed while the new location is renovated.

East Point Lobster Company hits the road in Little Rock

If you’ve spied a refrigerated truck making stops in River Market baring the name “East Point Lobster Company” here are the details:

The business, co-owned by Massachusetts native Ryan Mahoney, is a wholesale seafood business flying fresh lobster in from the East Coast and distributing to area restaurants.

Mahoney’s family is in the lobster business back home, and after making a couple of trips back to Little Rock with 50lb boxes of the crustaceans in tow, he fixated on the idea of making the shipments a more regular thing.

“We did a lot of market research to see what people were paying here and how often they’re using lobster,” Mahoney says. “It became quite evident that people were overpaying and weren’t getting good quality product.”

East Point’s business model involves getting the lobster in the hands of Little Rock chefs quickly–no sitting on a truck for days. Instead a wholsaler in Massachusetts picks up lobster directly from fisherman and has them to the airport that same day.

For now, East Point is functioning on a pre-ordered, wholesale basis working with several restaurants and country clubs in the area. But the company plans to expand to sell directly to consumers in … Read more >
